Christmas 2012 Recipe Descriptions

Below you will find a description of each recipe we're offering for Christmas 2012.  Each recipe is designated as either wheat-based (w) or gluten-free (GF) or available either way (w/GF).
Bishop's Hats  A rolled Swiss butter cookie (that is shaped into a cheeky little Bishop's hat), filled with jam and drizzled with glaze. (w)
Butterscotch Confetti  Will take you back in time to leg warmers, Aquanet hairspray and neon t-shirts.  Mini marshmallows covered in butterscotch chips and peanut butter.  A childhood favourite!  Naturally gluten-free. (GF)

Caramel Toffee Squares Will put you in mind of a Twix Bar.  These delectable squares have a shortbread crust covered in thick caramel and topped with chocolate. Available with a wheat-based crust and a gluten-free crust (note: the GF crust contains almond flour). (w/GF)

Chocolate Peppermint Cookies We refer to these as little pillows that taste a bit like a Girl Guide Minty Cookie.  These yummy peppermint cookies are crunchy on the outside and fudgy on the inside.  If you are a fan of chocolate and peppermint, these will be top your favourites list. Naturally gluten-free (GF)

Choco Toffee Snowballs  After one taste, it quickly became one of The Sugarplum Fairy’s favourite cookies.  This is a classic Christmas cookie that will leave you wishing Christmas came more than once a year. (w)

Gingersnaps  Mum’s famous ginger cookies.  Wonderful for dunking.  Your nose will thank you for the aromas of mollasses, ginger and cinnamon. (w)

Nanaimo Bars  No Canadian dessert tray would be complete without them.  A walnut studded chocolate, graham cracker and coconut crust is covered in a sweet custard filling and a thin layer of chocolate.  The gluten-free version uses crushed rice cereal instead of graham cracker crumbs. (w/GF)
Peanut Butter Balls  This is a holiday classic and it disappears in our house before we can sell it to our customers! These will put you in mind of a peanut butter cup... but so much better.  Naturally gluten-free. (GF)

Rolo Cookies This is a cookie where chocolate meets chocolate and then that chocolate meets caramel.  Your kids will be racing you to the cookie plate to get their hands on these.  A rolo chocolate is enrobed (yes, enrobed!) in a buttery chocolate cookie dough and sprinkled with white sugar. (w)
Shortbread  A traditional family recipe.  Our Scottish roots serve us well in this recipe.  One (very large) pan contains a full pound of butter.  If you’ve been wanting a proper shortbread, you’ve come to the right place.  You haven't tasted shortbread until you've tasted our shortbread. Our gluten-free version is made with a sorghum flour blend and almond flour (w/GF).
Tourtiere  Our tourtiere is a traditional-style tourtiere made with pork and beef but with the added beauty of apples lining the bottom of the crust.  We make our pastry using lard (for the wheat pastry) and shortening and butter for the GF pastry.  (w/GF)
